Libraries to close for Memorial Day

The eight branches of the Jackson-George Regional Library System will be closed Monday, May 28, in observance of the Memorial Day holiday.

The branches located in the communities of East Central, Gautier, Lucedale, Moss Point, Ocean Springs, Pascagoula, St. Martin and Vancleave, will reopen Tuesday, May 29, at regular hours.

200 people attend 3rd Annual Health Fair

George Regional Health System hosted their 3rd annual health fair at Lighthouse Community center in Lucedale Friday.

Officials said two hundred people attended the fair which offered, free health screenings for height/weight, cholesterol, skin cancer and several other screenings.

Attendees also had an opportunity to check out 50 heath related booths.

Agricola man arrested on meth charge

Narcotics agents with the George County Sheriff's Office and Lucedale Police Officers arrested 43-year-old Aubrey Lynn Crawley of George County on Monday after receiving a tip that he was cooking meth, according to officials.

When authorities arrived at Crawley's home at the 200 block of Glenn Vincent Road, they reportedly smelled a chemical odor. George County Sheriff Dean Howell said, officials found several precursor items, materials, chemicals used in the manufacture of methamphetamine and a meth lab.

Crawley was charged with manufacturing methamphetamine.

Start your Memorial Day weekend in Downtown Lucedale as the Chamber begins a monthly “Art Walk” on Friday, May 25 from 5 to 7 p.m.

Local and surrounding area artists will turn Main Street into an art gallery as they display some of their favorite pieces in front and inside of downtown businesses.

Rocky Creek Elementary Students who earned the most AR points in their grade for the last 9 weeks were treated to lunch at Pizza Hut with their Principal, Mr. Lance Bolen on Monday, May 14.

Winners are as follows: The Kindergarten winner was Brailee Eubanks from Mrs. Dawn Eubanks’ Class. The 1st Grade winner was Kaci Taylor from Mrs. Misti Rounsaville’s Class. The 2nd Grade winner was Jacob Eubanks from Mrs. Donna McIntosh’s Class.

The 3rd Grade winner was CJ Brown from Mrs. Broadhead’s Class. The 4th Grade winner was Christian Glass from Mrs.

Rocky Creek readers rewarded

Rocky Creek recently had special day at the Mobile Baybears baseball game to honor their top readers. They were rewarded according to how many Accelerated Reader Tests each student passed.

Those who earned 1st base got a free ticket to the game, 2nd base got a bracelet to play on the blow ups at the game, 3rd base got received a special baseball and students with a Homerun got all of the above, plus a Pepsi, hot dog, and were allowed to participate in the parade on the ball field before the game.
