New law gives FEMA power to forgive repayment

If you got a letter from FEMA asking for some of your Katrina money back, Congress may have handed you a break.

A new law gives FEMA the power to forgive repayment of $385 million in over payments to Katrina victims.

This year, some 83,000 people received overpayment notices from FEMA.

It's not clear how many people will benefit from the new law.

FEMA officials are now reviewing the new law and developing a plan to decide who is eligible for a repayment waiver.
