July 22, 2011 (Gulfport, MS) – The Humane Society of South Mississippi (HSSM) will attempt to set a Guinness World RecordTM for the “Most sheltered animals adopted within a 24-hour period” beginning August 6 at 10:00 am through 9:59 am August 7.

July 18, 2011 (Gulfport, MS) – The National Weather Service is predicting for 2011 to be a very active storm and hurricane season.  So, while you are preparing your family for possible hurricanes make sure to prepare your pets too with a microchip and a proper pet identification tag.

Lucedale animal shelter is adding 10 more pens

According to Lucedale Mayor Doug Lee, the Lucedale animal shelter will add ten more pens. The mayor said the shelter currently has around 20 pens, but could always use more.

"We had an extra junk room that we could put to better use," Mayor Lee said.

The mayor said he expects the pens to be finished in the next few weeks, around April 21.
