Work halted on new ball fields

The City of Lucedale is still working on removing the timber located on the property set for the new ball fields.

Lucedale Mayor Doug Lee said the city is going back to the drawing board.

"We were wanting someone to buy the timber on our field," Lee said.

The timber which would be purchased at market value isn't appealing to big companies, according to Lee.

"Some say 'it's because we only have a small amount of timber,'" Lee explained.

Expansion in the works for Milton Murrah ball field

According to Lucedale Mayor Doug Lee, the Milton Murrah ball field will soon have more fields. The city just purchased five and a half acres for $37,500 in September.

But, before the city can develop the land, Lee said the city has to clear the land.

"We need to sell off the timber," Lee said.

Lee said bids for the baseball field could go up as early as November 1.

"Right now we have only two fields. The five and a half acres should hopefully make three fields," Lee explained.
